Changing Concentration/Emphasis

I was advised by my CC counselors to apply for Business Administration-Business General as opposed to another concentration when I applied to SDSU (it had something to do with my University of Phoenix classes, I have no idea what) and then try and change my emphasis once I was admitted. I know that it says on the acceptance letter that changing majors is not allowed. I am still a Business Administration major but I want to change my concentration. I called the advisers and evaluations at SDSU and I was told that I would have to speak with someone at orientation and then wait until September after the census to change my concentration. Do any current students have anymore information on helping me understand the whole orientation process and what I need to do? Is there anything that can be done before September? I’d like to try and get all the classes I can before the fall semester starts, not after it.

I actually went to SDSU today to the school of communication to ask about this exact thing. I was accepted as a Communication (Applied) major which has an additional math requirement but I plan on switching to the Communication (Liberal Arts) major which requires just a foreign language and no additional math. I spoke with one of the communication advisors and he told me that it is most certainly possible but to wait to request the change until after my first semester at State. I would assume it would be the same for you since you’re still staying within the business major, you’re just trying to change it from general to having an emphasis. Maybe go in to the business admin school and ask to see an advisor. I believe they accept walk-in appointments but call ahead to make sure an advisor is in the office before you go.

@raychill89 Thanks for the advice! I looked at the MyMap in the webadvisor and it wouldn’t be such a big deal to take the business admin general classes for the fall semester because they are all applicable to the information systems concentration. So I am okay waiting after the first semester, I’m just hoping I’ll get all the classes I need so I don’t have to take any during the summer! Did you get your financial aid? They’re super fast! I read that it may change if we get other aid so I wonder how that works for students covered by the GI Bill.

@ieatsushi No problem! And no not yet unfortunately. I dropped off my verification worksheet today and it says in AidLink that it could take 4-6 weeks for them to process it? Lol! I don’t think it’ll take that long, but it’s still in the works right now. Hopefully I’ll know soon.

Does your AidLink have a message that says you need to pay the $400.00 intent to enroll fee? I called financial aid yesterday and they told me that they see the payment is deferred because of the GI Bill but it’s weird it shows up in AidLink as though I need to still take care of it.

@raychill89 I didn’t get that message. That is weird, are they going to take care of it?

Yep. They said that it would be taken care of. They determined based on my financial aid application that I would not need to pay the $400.00 fee anyways lol. So I guess it’s all cleared! @ieatsushi
