Hello, I need some advice for my current situation please anything will help. I have been admitted as a California transfer to sdsu and sjsu for business administration/marketing and I am leaning more toward sdsu. My problem is that i might have to drop my current business calculus class because I fear I will end up with a D. I have all the required 60+ transferable credits as well as all the business transferable required classes such as economics, accounting, stats, business law etc. The only one that I will need to drop is business calculus and I will still maintain my 3.3 gpa. Does anyone know if they will revoke my admittance just on the one bus calc dropped class or will they just make me take it again when I get there? My counselor thinks they will still accept me and I called sdsu admissions and all they could tell me was they would make a decision when they see my final transcript, so it is unknown. Can anyone give me any feedback or advice please. The other issue is the fact that my counselor said sjsu will accept me even if I do not complete bus calc so if I commit to sdsu by may 1st and then they reject me I will be completely out of luck and will have to wait another year before applying to schools again. HELP PLEASE! THANK YOU!

Call both ASAP and ask. Since you’ve been admitted, they want you and, I bet, will work with you. They don’t like surprises.

Don’t just rely on your CC counselor. They aren’t part of the decision process. Call (or better, drop in) admissions and lay your cards on the table. Ask if a W or a D will be worse on your record and do what they suggest. Offer to re-take the class over the summer - if that helps.

Make a note of who you talk to and when.

Good luck.

I tried to respond to your PM but, the system wouldn’t let me so, i’ll do it here. Let me start with this: Great job contacting the admissions office. Those can be tough conversations for a young adult to have. It sounds like you handled yourself well so, kudos to you.

It may not feel like it sometimes but, virtually everyone in the system wants you to succeed.

It sounds like you don’t have any options - you have to study your butt off and pass the course. Talk to your teacher, make sure he/she understands the stakes for you. I’m sure they will help you with study materials. Maybe someone in class can tutor you.

In your situation, I’d commit to both schools. I know that’s bad form and might cost a few hundred bucks but, better safe than sorry.

Stick with it and, pass or fail, get (and stay) in touch with someone in the admissions office. Be respectful, even when you don’t like their answers. It’s possible, if you fail the class you’ll be stuck for a semester so, study hard. Offer to re-take the class over the summer as a condition of admission.

You sound like a sharp kid with lots of potential. I think it’s great you are demonstrating your commitment to your education and not letting things like this side track you. I guarantee you this won’t be the last bump in your educational road. As a Product Manager for a big company whose screened and hired dozens, about half the value of a college degree is you demonstrating challenges won’t stand in the way of your goals.

Keep your focus - and study your ass off. Something will work out.

Good luck.

I’m actually in the same situation except mine is with business law. I called admissions about 2 weeks ago and they told me that it’s a possibility that my admission would be revoked if I dropped the class. I just decided that I’m just gonna study a lot for the class and hope that I don’t get a D.
