Hi

Ive been accepted into the college of engineering for spring 2011, but i deferred one year so ill be attending BU in the spring of 2012.

If i want to change my major to accounting from engineering? How can I go about doing so? Would it be easy to change?

it is pretty easy to change. just make sure you keep up around a B average in order to transfer. you’ll need to play some catch up work though and take an intensive one semester business course to do so. however, some requirements(and i’m referring to the liberal arts ones) overlap in the engineering and business curriculum.

Is it possible to change before I even start college?

hm…im not too sure! you should probably call admissions regarding this

I’m sure you can. Just gotta call em up.

Not to be the downer, but I would actually be surprised if you could change before arriving to school. You should call to find out, but the engineering and business schools are separate at BU and do admissions separately. Furthermore, the various schools pride themselves on their separate admissions.

Also, to transfer in SMG you need more than a B average. You need to get a B or higher in a specific SMG class (I forget the name, I am a few years out). This class is 6 credits and most people only take it with 2 other classes (8 credits), due to the time requirement (14 credits meet the scholarship, international student and full time student aid requirements).

I checked my application status online, and it says if you want to change your major during the decisions process (before they actually make their decision) that you should call the admissions office.

If you’re going to orientation, you can usually change there. the only x factor is how many people have been accepted into the engineering/business programs…if it’s too many, they might not let you switch yet.

Just to clarify for those still interested, I was able to change my major via an email to the admissions office. It took them a few days to respond, but once they do, all they ask you to do is send a confirmation email confirming that you’re positive about the switch.

It helps to include your BU ID and name in the email so they can verify that it’s actually you.

just to confirm, did you change majors as in change schools? eg, college of engineering to school of management? or was it like mechanical engineering to biomedical engineering.

Also, are you attending BU atm?

I’m not attending BU, I’m still waiting to hear from them. I swapped my major from Mechanical Engineering to Computer Science, so yes, they allowed me to switch my school. Hopefully all goes well when I find out.
