Does anyone have experience changing dorms as a freshman? I signed up for a single in towers, and got assigned a 8 person suite in Sutherland.
I'd like to get into Tower A or B.

Should I call tomorrow and see, or how do I go about changing it?

My daugher was assigned a single in Holland last year and was very upset about her room assignment. She too had put a preference for a DOUBLE in Towers, or a triple, suite, etc. Her last choice was a single in all girls dorm. I believe Pitt will not honor any housing transfer requests until you give your room assignment two weeks and then you can request to transfer. Having gone through this with my daughter I know how upsetting it can be to be starting off in what you feel is the wrong living environment, but all did turn out OK. Who knows maybe starting off in the suite you will find some suite mates that you really click with. Are you in a single within the suite? I also here Sutherland is a very nice dorm and rooms are bigger than Towers. My D was not happy about her housing assignment but after she got over it she tried to dwell on the positives and it really turned out OK. She feels her preference would have been to be in Towers but she made great friends with the girls in her dorm and it really did turn out OK.

You have to wait 2 weeks. You probably have a better chance getting a single in Tower C or Holland Hall. I don’t think tower a and b have singles. I lived in sutherland freshman year and i loved it though. the eight person suites have 2 full bathrooms and there are bathrooms in the lobbys (without showers of course) so it isnt too bad at all. Plus the rooms are a lot bigger so you’re not on top of your roommate. there is almost lounges on each floor and a computer lab in the lobby so you can always go down the hall to study and vice versa

How did they go from you wanting to have zero roommates to giving you seven? Did you apply for housing late? Personally, I think you will like the suite-style living; however, if you don’t, they can probably move you to another room after a few weeks. If you need to move later, you will have friends on campus to help you.

I am not sure whether you’re a male or female, but I am a female in Tower A with a double. I dont know if you’d be willing to switch with me or not. I desperately want Sutherland, expecially a suite. I am currently on the room change list (which is what you would have to do) and called Panther Central for an update. This is what I was told
“We have a large amount of incoming freshman that we still have not and cannot place in dorms. We will not be able to start looking at the room change list until we have finished placing students. Estimating, I would say, it probably wont be until the first week of school, and we cannot guarantee anything”
I don’t know whether you’d be interested in switching or not, I do hope so though. Just get back to me soon and maybe we can figure something out.

Wow – that doesn’t sound good – “cannot place in dorms”???

Maybe Pitt has some “overflow” housing available? Like placing 4 students in the Towers lounge rooms, or renting apartments from private owners? Lets hope so!

So did they underestimate how many students would accept admissions and would require housing? If so, wouldn’t they have known about this earlier especially with the required housing deposits. I can’t imagine 4 students in the Towers lounge but have heard about it in the past :(

sorry I took so long to respond Adinahc. I’m a guy, so that wouldn’t work out.

I think I’m probably just going to stay in Sutherland. I would have preferred Tower A or B, but Sutherland is all freshmen so it can’t be all that bad.

As far as space goes, the Towers lounges with 4 students were not all that bad. The real negative though, is that it eliminates the common area.

Yo Pandem, if you want to switch with me I’d be happy to. I have a single in the towers and want to be in a sutherland suite. Hit me up through email or whatever asap!
