Dorm Assignment Method and Deposits

How do they assign dorms? If you send your deposit in very early, are you more likely to get your first choice?

We sent our deposit in as soon as they started accepting deposits, I believe it was in March on-line.

My D is a freshman in Litchfield Towers A. It was her first choice and she loves it. She has a wonderful room mate so we feel very fortunate.

On the on-line application you will be asked to complete a room mate questionnaire, so make sure you chilld is present when you pay the housing fee. Also you will be asked to list a first and second choice for housing.
A few of my daughters friends were assigned to Holland, which is an all girls dorm. They really didn’t want to be there be it was their second choice for housing. The word on the street is if Holland was in your choices you were assigned it even if it wasn’t your first choice.

Hope this helps

This was two years ago but I seem to recall that the earlier you send in your deposit the more likely you would get your first choice. Son applied for SPACE which was in Tower A. The rooms are tiny but he thoroughly enjoyed his time there. Have you looked into the different housing communities?

No, not for a few years now. There may be a housing community that would be good for her. I do have my doubts, however, about the ten-person suites in Sutherland. That is a heck of a lot of people to have to get along with. I think she wants to live in Towers.

You can’t go wrong with Towers. Everything is centrally located and with Market Central/Taco Bell in the basement – you don’t have to get cold or wet to get food  I didn’t know they had a ten-person suite. For freshmen, I would recommend Towers or something on lower campus versus upper campus.

My daughter is in one of the learning communities in Sutherland (global something or other). It really isn’t for her and she wants to move to an honors housing option, but I think most of the other girls really like it. My daughter thought that it would be more academic in nature.

Also, her suite is eight girls and they share two bathrooms. The first week of school, one of the girls was confirmed H1N1, and it seems as though someone has been sick with something since. I think the dorms with bathrooms that are cleaned with serious chemicals are probably better for everyone (and not cleaned by a teenager who really doesn’t want to clean).

They don’t clean the bathrooms in the suites – the occupants have to clean them. Towers had a cleaning service for the communal bathrooms so you would think they use heavy duty cleaners.
