Changing dorm

Hello, I'm a frosh, and would like to know if anyone has changed dorms and share some experience about it, maybe add couple tips etc. Thanks a lot

I haven’t changed (Currently living in a Single) but I do know a couple friends that did change.

No one has posted anything yet but I might be able to help!

Why do you want to change?

Basically the housing office usually only allows you to change dorms if you have a serious excuse to do so. If you are asking about changing between dorms while still staying at the same college: then that’s not too difficult. Just provide a reasonable explanation and depending on the availability, you should be able to change. Sometimes you might not even need a reason and they will allow it.

It’s a bit more difficult to change colleges though. This is usually because people abused switching between colleges during their frosh year so that they could room with their friends soph year for the on campus apartments (Ex. Crown student wants to be apart of C10 so he can live in a C10 apartment next year with his C10 friends). If you’re not interested in doing that, then they might simply allow you to change dorms but not college affiliation.

It really depends on who the housing officers are and how reasonable you can sound. I met a girl who was in my core class freshman year at C10 and she simply moved to Cowell by mid-winter quarter because there was a double there with an empty spot.

Changing dorms is just a matter of finding a new room and filling out the paperwork with a slight explanation of why. pretty simple.
