Changing From Letter grade to pass/fail

How bad does this look when applying to medical school? This is my first quarter and would like to start my college career with a strong GPA. How bad does it look to change my grading to a pass/fail basis? I would probably get a B in a GE class that is not part of my major, so i wonder if it would be better to make it Pass/fail, and get A's in all my other classes?

You are overreacting. A few B's especially one from freshman year, are not going to kill your chances for med school. Changing to a pass/fail could lead someone to believe the grade was actually lower.

Calm down, your undergrad years have just begun.

You should probably just work hard enough to get the A, then we wouldn't have this little problem, now would we?

On a less cynical note, those B's can start adding up quickly. Do make sure you work your hardest to get A's from now on. Don't change it to a P/F, suck it up, and learn from your mistakes.

I would think the assumption would be that the grade that compelled you to switch to Pass Fail would be lower than a B.

You're freaking out about a B? You're well on your way to becoming a successful premed.

[x] extreme neuroticism... CHECK

I agree now that a W would imply a lower grade than a B....

however, I took a W my first semester b/c I didn't know that Ws were bad (stupid, I know) when i was on track to get a B
