Okay, so I might not get such a good grade in one of my courses that is not related to my major nor is it a prereq. Should I change it to P/NP? I really dont want to risk a B.

PSAS has mentioned that a "P" will be assumed to have replaced a very bad grade and should be avoided. Makes sense to me.

I've always been told that a P is considered to be a C or lower by admissions committees. So, if you're in risk of a B, I'd say take the B.

what about courses that are graded only by P/NP? Do they assume this too?

In other words, if you cannot get assigned a grade from the course? This would probably be something like PE, right? It'd be fine as long as the course is obviously such and as long as you're taking a normal courseload in ADDITION to this course.

What happens if one does not pass PE?

... at the very least, the F shows up on your transcript and is calculated into your GPA. Unless the rest of your app is really killer, that's... well, any F is a big deal.
