hello chap

It doesn't matter. I'm not sure it can be changed, but they don't really care what you apply as.

I think what the OP is talking about is the extra essay required for his selected major. This presents an impossibility, as the school expects previous experience in this subject for the essay, yet the OP has just began taking the subject his senior year. Thus, he is limited in what he can write about.

actually, that is the SAME exact situation i am in. i hope that helped clarify things.

It may not be an easy thing to do, but I'd call admissions if you think it'll be a seriously difficult question to ask due to your situation.

someonesdotcom, did you apply for Bachelor of Science in one of the hard sciences or something? cus i don't remember extra essays otherwise

yes, i applied for Bachelor of Science in one of the hard sciences, but i don't have enough background to answer the questions. (i did not know i would be required to write essays if i selected chemistry)

Yes, you have a genuine dilemma. My daughter went back and changed her major to Undecided to avoid this problem, since she hadnt sent in part 1 yet. Since you have already sent in part one, I think the suggestion to call admissions is a good one, or, since this is a busy time of year and it may be hard to get a personal answer, perhaps on the Science essay form you can explain that your choice was tentative, since you've just begun the subject and like it, but were not aware of the need to show past experience in it when you sent in part one.
I am sure this will not be the first time the admissions office will have seen someone in this situation.

thank you for your suggestion

hey does any one know, if i am to do the online app for brown (its a bit more secure and leaves more time for me to do the thing), is there a hard word limit for the personal essay? do they "cut off" at a certain number of characters? because i mean, i am a bit over limit, and i just can't cut anymore, because it is such a Hemmingway-esque essay.
thanks.

Can you print out the online app? Usually (not always) what you see when you print is what they will see, so it's one indicator.
