Changing majors within engineering department

I got accepted for engineering mechanics when I applied for mechanical engineering. They’re similar majors, so I expect that changing my major to mechanical engineering wouldn’t be as hard as it normally would. Does anyone know anything about this?

nope you still need to go through the transfer process and MechE is near-impossible to transfer

Of course the transfer process i the same, but for example, wouldn’t a person transferring from LAS to engineering be viewed differently than a transfer within the college of engineering?

that’s up to the department youre transfering to and to my knowledge they don’t look or care what college/major you’re coming from. If you really want to do Mechanical go somewhere where you got directly admitted.

My son is in a similar situation. His first choice was mechanical engineering but got accepted into Industrial Engineering. I emailed the head of admissions for Mechanical Engineering to ak about possible transfer after the first year. He was not very encouraging. Basically said you need a 3.8 GPA (or higher) plus outside activities to even be considered. He sad it is very competitive. I don’t think I want my son to have that stress going into freshman year!
