Hello,
I recently got accepted into Cal Poly for General Engineering; I chose the major because I wasn’t really sure which major I wanted to go into. How easy is it to switch within the department, say, from general engineering to electrical engineering? I know Cal Poly has a harsh reputation when it comes to switching majors, but would the fact that I’m in the engineering department make it easier?
The link below will tell you everything you need to know. GEs are expected to switch. That’s why they only need a 2.0 to switch to ME while everyone else needs a 2.75. Good luck.

As @eyemgh mentioned, General engineering majors almost always switch to another major. Since you’re already in the college of engineering, and also general engineering, your its much easier to switch majors. After your first quarter here you can switch to another major. You just need to have the right GPA requirements and (possibly) fill out a change of major contract from the front office. Hope this helps.
