Hello,
I am a mechanical engineering student in my second semester. I am getting good grades (3.8 GPA) and have 54 credits. I am in a class in which we are given problem statements and have to go through the design process and I absolutely HATE it. The problem statements are either extremely boring and uninteresting or they are so wide open I have no idea what to do. I wanted to work in defense or aerospace design and may end up getting an internship this summer in this area but I am worried I will hate it as much as this class because the internship is a project where we are given a problem and have 10 weeks to design and present a solution. So I have been thinking about changing majors.
I am very good at Math and Physics and enjoy both. I am also interested in History, Economics and Politics and Sports. Some of my friends have suggested I would be good at computer science because I am detail oriented but i have never programmed in my life and I don’t know if I just want to stare at a computer screen all the time. I have considered changing to CS, Math, Physics, Economics, Meteorology and Poly Sci as well as staying a ME.I am kind of far along in math and physics so i would like to not have wasted taking those classes (such as Differential Equations and Physics 2).
Any suggestions on what I should change to? or should I just focus on a different area of ME? Also what kinds of jobs are available in each field?
I know this is a long question and without knowing me it will be hard to answer but any input is appreciated.
Thank You
