Changing your major from undergraduate

I have no idea how it works, but people say if you found your true passion on other subjects, you can change your major starting from undergraduate year. Is it true ? Please correct me if I’m wrong

All student’s apply to Harvard College as Liberal Arts Majors, and do not choose a major, called a concentration, until their sophomore year. So, whatever students select as their “intended major” when they apply to the college has absolutely no bearing on what major they will ultimately graduate with.

FWIW: In the U.S., over 60% of students switch their major during the course of their 4 years of college. So, unless you are applying to a specific college within a university – such as the Wharton School of Business at UPenn – students are free to change their majors at anytime during the first two years of college. (This is quite different from the UK system of education, and many international students are likewise confused.)

And, if you happen to find your true passion during your junior year of college, you can still switch your major, however, you will end up graduating in more than 4 years – and those extra years will cost you dearly in additional money, as Harvard only guarantee’s 4 years of financial aid.

At Harvard, you have two years before you choose a major, so that gives you a lot of time to figure out what you want to study.

so do they require anything if you want to change your major ? for instance, extra sat subject scores or more ?

No, you just declare your concentration by filling out the proper form, by the end of your sophomore year. If you want to change after that, you may have to deal with concentration requirements that could require taking extra courses, or staying beyond four years.

Please re-read Gibby’s explanation of “liberal arts”. Harvard WANTS you to pick and choose and not be locked into any one thing before you’re ready to decide.
