ChAnnCeeMEeeeeEEPLLLELLEAAASSEEEEEEE!@!!1!!!!!q~

Hello ladies and gents,
I'm an 8th grader applying for 9th at the top boarding schools of the US.

-I have an A+ in all of my honor classes. However, I just got an A last trimester in French class- Is that going to count greatly against me?!

-I scored in the 99th percentile on the SSAT, 2367. Is that terrible??? I lost 33 points!!! Should I have scheduled a retake this month?? What should I do??

-I have a 4.2978 GPA out of 4.3- What about the left over 0.0022!?

-I speak 13 languages, including English, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Portuguese, Persian, and 4 others. Should I start learning more??!?!???

-I've been playing the violin for 12 years, and I've played at Carnegie Hall and the White House... Should I perform more?? Are the schools going to hate that?!

-I've been volunteering for a really long time, with about 690 hours last year... Is that too few?

-I play varsity lacrosse, volleyball, basketball, tennis and soccer. Should I have learned more?!?

-Oh, one more thing. I sneezed during one of my interviews 3 weeks ago... Am I going to get rejected at that school????!!!!

-One last thing!!!!! Writing has been my passion ever since first grade, and I published my first novel when I was 6. I wrote five more novels after that. Is that going to hurt my chances? Should I write more novels???

OH PLEAAASSSSSSEEEEEEEE OH PLLLLLLLLEEEEEEAASEE CHANCE ME!??!?????????????????!!! I'M FREAKING OUT HEREEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t know about this
I think the sneeze is going to really hurt your chances
I’d recommend trying to win a nobel prize

Oh dear, the sneeze is really that detrimental, is it?!?!??? Oh, what in the world will I do??

Will the Nobel Prize really increase my chances???

ahahaaa niceeeee… u just copying other peoples thread than making jokes of it

@AlexThePerson

i’m not trying to accuse you of anything whatsoever, but there seems to be something incredibly fishy about everything you wrote. If you’ve looked at other people’s “chance me” posts, everything you wrote is really way up high and beyond any other person. Everything you listed seemed to be too good to be true…i mean come on, a 4.2978 GPA out of 4.3, and you’re still worrying about that last 0.0022? i have never heard of anyone complaining or worrying about that ever. that is, unless you are an extreme, and by that i mean VERY extreme, perfectionist. plus, 13 languages? and you think you need more? that’s kind of a joke…

i’m very sorry if it sounds like i’m insulting you for all your great accomplishments, but everything you’ve said seems too good to be true…

and in my honest opinion, this is a joke…

I don’t know if the nobel prize could help you especially if that novel you published wasn’t a best seller

I just wasted five minutes reading through this. :P

You need to find a cure for cancer to be qualified for these schools. Other than that, you’re qualified for an automatic rejection. I know where you’re going with this…

You are woefully overqualified. Start your own school.

You know, I think asking whether a 97% on the SSAT is absolutely ridiculous. Anybody who asks if they schedule a retake for with a 97% just plain deserves to be rejected at every school that they’re applying to. Honestly, how can you possibly do well at a boarding school if you can’t even tell if a 97% is actually an EXCELLENT score?

And andoverbigblue? Don’t worry; I’m not a perfectionist in reality, thank God, to the point where I’m asking where the 0.0022 went. That is just completely ludicrous. I’m not even going to explain why. Of course there was something fishy about everything that I wrote!

yankeefan1234, I did not make this thread to make a joke out of other peoples’ stats. But I guess you’re the only person who knew immediately that I wasn’t serious with what I wrote.

Pepperjke, I was kidding about the Nobel Prize. But I have seen many threads asking whether a sneeze/cough will ruin their chances of getting in. I’d have no comment in answering that. Haha, I don’t know… maybe I will write a best seller someday… it depends on whether I get the Nobel Prize. Or if I find a cure for cancer, AngEverlasting. Or if I start my own boarding school that becomes one of the best schools of the US. If I do receive the Nobel Prize, hopefully, I’m sure I’ll have some good stuff to write about in my #1 New York Times best seller. ;)

Yongatilla- I think you were reading this 180 degrees in the wrong direction…

I’m trying to make a point here, that anybody who is applying to boarding school shouldn’t be asking whether their stats are good enough. I wish that the “Prep School Chances” forum was never created. One chance thread is enough to know what an average applicant applying to the top boarding schools looks like. There’s absolutely no need to create hundreds of extra threads asking, “Do I have the slightest chance??” All these people are just looking for compliments and encouragements.

Everybody, look at the ~1000 “Chance Me Please/Honestly/for HADES etc.” threads. When I scroll down those threads, and see that somebody replied, "Oh My God!!! Your stats are amazing!!! If you don’t get in, then there’s no way I’m getting in!” I think to myself, PU-LEAZ, what is wrong with the world today? We all know that you’ve learned 7 languages, now go get a life. Don’t get me wrong, there are many people out there applying to boarding schools who have fantastic stats, but bragging about them here on CC is not going to help.

Pick a random thread that’s titled “Chance Me for XXXX!”.

-They most likely all got a 85% on the SSAT or so-so.
-Their current school is rated top X of XXX state!
-They have EXCELLENT recommendations.
-Most of them get A+'s and A’s and A-'s. Maybe a B+ or two.
-I’m 98.7654321% sure that the thread has a laundry list of EC’s, awards, achievements etc., that goes on foreveererrrrrrr.
-They have a passion in EVERYTHING. They love art, athletics, music, community service, instruments… etc. They can’t live without XX EC! They’ve been playing that XX EC their whole life!
-AMAZING interview (The interview was really amazing!!! The interviewer said that I’d be the PERFECT fit for the school!!!)
-You’re thinking, “Wow, the next best thing this kid could earn would be the Nobel Prize…”

Am I right? The above truly does apply to most students who are using “Prep School Chances”. Give me a break.

@AlexThePerson
you are definitely right about everything you said.
i dont see a point in the chance me section of this forum…

 1. it can make others feel bad about themselves if they feel they aren’t as qualified as the person listing all their ECs, awards, grades, scores, etc…especially if they are applying to the same school
 2. some people do lie about the things they write, just to make themselves look a lot better. im not accusing everyone of doing this, but there must be some people who do…
 3. just because some random person on the internet says you are qualified doesnt mean the school’s admission board thinks you are.

andoverbigblue, thank you very much!

Prep School Chances makes more of a negative impact in the majority of the people. It wastes time. It makes people ‘worry’ about whether their stats are good enough.

Here’s pre-school story time people-

Bob has incredible/amazing/wonderful stats. He posts all of them here, on “Prep School Chances”.

Then Fred comes along, and is stunned at Bob’s EC’s/achievements/grades/SSATs/awards/community services. Fred feels like nothing compared to Bob. Fred decides to create another new thread on his own stats, which are pretty much just as shocking as Bob’s stats.

Oh and there’s Chuck who just happens to walk by “Prep School Chances”. He randomly clicked on Fred’s thread, and scrolls down his stats. He is wordless. Actually, he comments, “I’m sitting here thinking that if you don’t get in, there’s no way I am. I wish my stats were as amazing as yours. You have a GREAT chance, I really, truly, honestly mean it. I wish you the best of luck!”

Now on Chuck’s way home, he feels a bit uneven, because everyone around him has such wonderful stats, and he feels like he doesn’t. Sigh. And he turns around and decides to make another thread… that are perrrrty much just duplicates of Bob and Fred’s.

Then that re-occurs hundreds and thousands of times. And it seems like it’s never going to stop. It’s like inertia; an object in motion will always be in motion. Unless acted upon by force. I hope who views my post will learn something today.

Ah, andoverbigblue, yes.

I can tell there are definitely MANY people on Prep School Chances who lie about many things that they write. There are many exaggerated stats also. Their just ever so very completely exaggerated that they seem ever so unrealistic. I saw one person post “-Chosen as best trumpet player of entire state.” I was just like, “Whatever, you’re not worth listening to.” You can tell that that is absolutely fabricated in so many ways. It is also VERY exaggerating. I don’t think anybody can say that anybody is the best XX instrument player of any state, even if it was Rhode Island. You’re thinking, “But I’m truly not lying about my stats! They are what they are!” Oh, well, good for you. You’re just so smart with a 99% that you’re even dumb enough to ask other people on the internet whether or not you’re qualified. If I’m not mistaken, I’m pretty sure that EVERYBODY who is applying to boarding school is qualified, and EVERYBODY has a chance. You’re destiny is not written out for you, on a script that says, “Oh, person X is not qualified. He or she will definitely be rejected. Let’s reject her for XX School.” As cliche is this may sound, all you have to do is believe in yourself. That will benefit you more than posting your stats online. Trust me on this.

EVERYBODY READ THIS

To sustain andoverbigblue’s last point-
I scolled down a post of someone who had mediocre grades, EC’s, community service etc. She was normal as any other person, unlike some people on Prep School Chances, who try to make their stats seem as GRANDILOQUENT as possible. I didn’t see her bragging about her stats, “Oh! I’ve been horseback riding ever since I was 5 years old, and I absolutely cannot live without it! I love it!” Oh, and GUESS WHAT? She ended up getting into Exeter. I saw someone say that she didn’t have a highlight or something (It was a long time ago I can’t remember exactly), and that she had almost no chance. Well, that person was ever SOOOOOOOOOO completely, totally, absolutely wrong. This proves that the opinion of people here on CC are not the opinions of Admissions Officers.

To people who say people are qualified, and to people who make people feel like they don’t have enough:
I deferentially ask you to shut up. There, I said it; people on the internet are in no position in ‘chancing’ any student. Unless, let’s say you’re a student of HADES and you can give some tips and advice. Or you’re an Admissions Officer, like GemmaV.

Have I proved my point here yet?

Yes, you most definitely have proved your point here. I couldn’t agree with you anymore than I do right now.

Well, I, for one, would have appreciated a more detailed statistical analysis of the potential adverse impact of the sneeze, taking into account (among other things) the acceptance and rejection rates for candidates who have sneezed, those candidates’ SSAT scores and grades, and the number of sneezes for each candidate.

Otherwise, though, I thought this was a great first thread - thanks for joining the forum, AlexThePerson!

I see your point about how people over exaggerate about their stats. BTW, if my earlier post offended you in any way, I did not mean it. I thought that you were just another CCer who brags about their stats. My bad. B-)

dodgersmom- Actually, I’ve been on the forum for a very long time. I especially made this account to make my point clear. It was driving me crazy and I couldn’t stand it anymore. I may be one of the other people on the forum, but you just don’t know it. I may even be one of the people who you’ve @ed before. My absolute pleasure. ;)

Yongatilla- No, your post didn’t offend me in any way. It’s just that you took me so seriously… haha. One note: don’t take ANY of the CHANCE ME threads seriously. At all. DO my advice seriously, though.

AngEverlasting- I feel satisfied knowing that at least SOME people have read my thread and aren’t ashamed of agreeing with me. Thank you.

I wish there was a ‘favorites’ thread here on CC.
Your funny, AlexThePerson!
