I am a freshman at UCSB with an undeclared major. I am thinking that this isn't the best school for me, as it is just way too huge and not very strong in anything but the sciences (I am definitely not a science person). I visited my friend at Chapman about a month ago and absolutely loved it. He is in the film school and from what I've heard is doing some amazing work there. My question is if I were to apply to the film school with little prior film experience would it be a lost cause? Looking at the Dodge College (film school) application process online, they claim to weight GPA and scores over experience within the major. These were high for me (I got into Berkeley) and I plan to keep my grades high this year as well.

Also, I'd be interested to hear opinions on this, as UCSB does have much more prestige than Chapman. Would this be a bad choice even if I could get into the film school?

Thanks

Honestly, it’ll definitely not be a bad choice to transfer to Chapman IF you got into their film program. Chapman film is recognized as one of the best in the nation. So if i were you, i would go to chapman film anyday over UCSB.

HOWEVER, i really don’t know too much about the acceptance thing. Like even if they say that they weigh GPA over experience, i dont know if they take complete new people who don’t know a thing about film…maybe having like one or two good experiences to put on the application would be good. But if you have nothing at all…then idk…

I do have experience, in high school I was a part of the Broadcasting program that produced a news show daily, and I’ve made plenty of short films with my friends.

Does anyone know about their Creative Producing major? I’ve heard its new this year and don’t know much about it. Sounds a lot like film production with the addition of a business and marketing aspect.

Any more insight on this topic would be tremendously helpful
