Chapman University or University of the Pacific

I’m having a really difficult time deciding between these two schools. I plan on being a piano performance major and the final cost of my college education will be very similar. If I go to Chapman University I plan to learn under Grace Fong and if I go to the University of Pacific I plan to learn from Frank Wiens. Where do you guys think I should attend for my undergrad.?

Welcome to cc. Have you had sample lessons with each teacher? Have you visited each school, met with students and faculty, looked at the dorms? Chapman used to start Freshman out in triples–is that still the case? If you’ve already visited, make your list of pros and cons for each place. Eventually, you’ll make your decision from your gut, based upon teacher fit and “feel.” Make another visit to each place if you can. While these are both private California universities, the locations are quite different. Chapman has easy access to LA via the train. Good luck to you.

glr,

congratulations on your acceptances. I will be including them over at the http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/1045522-master-list-music-school-acceptances-fall-2011-a-63.html

If you have any other acceptances, we would like to add those to the list as well, even if you are not considering attending any of them.

I have not taken sample lessons from the teachers but I’ve heard great stories about the both of them. Chapman now has freshmen dorms for both triples and doubles and their rooms are alot bigger than the dorms in the University of the Pacific.
Thanks for in info! :)

Don’t base your decision on the size of the dorm rooms - they vary depending on the dorm, and even within the dorms (U of Pacific, anyway).
Look at all the factors - and there are a lot, especially for a music major.
Once upon a time…when I attended there but was not a music major (but knew people who were), UOP was a very friendly university and with regards to music, had an outstanding choral professor and another member of the music faculty was also very notable (I have forgotten specifics by now), and I have had the impression that recent years have been favorable there. Heard good things about the opera/voice; KNOW the flute prof is great.
I like the “Pacific Seminars” that all freshmen take now - sounds great. There was an interesting description in the alumni magazine, “Pacific Review,” Winter 2011.

Glr553 what Highschool are you currently attending? and another question would be, which one seems best fit… Both are fairly good and it just depends on what high school and kind of culture you are looking for in a college. From there you can decide so good luck!

GRL553, though I am sure that you are aware of this: DO NOT POST OR SHARE YOUR HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION.
