Chapman University vs. University of San Francisco

Hey hey hey!

I basically have three days to pick which college to attend for fall 2009. I've narrowed down my choices to Chapman U and USF. I've been browsing the various threads related to both USF and Chapman on this website, hoping that they would help me finalize my decision. Unfortunately, I've become even more indecisive than before! So I finally decided to make a thread to ask for advice/opinions on which school I should consider. I live in Los Angeles, I'm considered by many of my friends to be eccentric in personality/musical tastes, and I plan on pursuing a major of Advertising/Public Relations.

Can anyone help??? My future is in your hands now! lol

no seriously though...

ps, did anyone go to Coachella this year?? :D

Well, I’m biased, because I really like Chapman, (and for other reasons) so I def. say Chapman. But let me explain why. The PR/A major at Chapman is in the Dodge College of Media Arts, so not only will you get PR/A training, but you will be part of a community that is arguably the best known part of Chapman. You will also be able to network with Film students, and Film professionals, and in your job, I would think that who you know would be important. But it really depends on what kind of location you want to live in, financial aid, etc.
But if I had to make that choice, I would choose Chapman.

Two totally different environments right wing Christian Chapman vs liberal SF.

Academically USF is a notch above. Also, I would take the Bay Area vs OC any day of the week.

Both schools offered me excellent financial aid so money isn’t a deciding factor for me. If it was, it would make my life so much easier! Location wise, I live an hour away from Chapman and about six from San Francisco. I loved the city of San Francisco, but I’ve been hearing some bad things about the academic environment at USF and I’ve heard NOTHING about it’s advertising major. I take my academics pretty seriously, but since I’ve been in a pretty competitive magnet for the last four years (I’m just about burnt out from it) I’m not sure if I want to put myself through that again at Chapman. But, I also don’t want to go to a school that is filled with a bunch of slackers. I loved the Dodge program at Chapman, but the surrounding neighborhood seemed a bit too quiet for me. I won’t have a car, which to me might be a problem if I attend Chapman. I feel like I’d find more people that share my personal interests at USF, but I feel Chapman will be more beneficial career wise.

As you can tell, I’m have a huge predicament on my hands.

I would still go to USF.

USF sounds like a better fit for me, and the SF Bay Area is very strong in PR/Advertising. So I think it would work out well.

My son goes to USF and is majoring in computer science while minoring in Japanese and mathematics. I would say the academics are what you make of them. He is challenged and very busy. Plus he loves going to school in SF.

I’m gonna vote for Chapman, their business/arts programs are very good

Advertising/PR is a professional trade, not an academic pursuit. Nothing wrong with that, but you won’t likely find professional trade training at a typical college (USF). Chapman seems tailor made for you.

what did you ultimately decide?

“I’m gonna vote for Chapman, their business/arts programs are very good”

I agree. My cousin almost went into bizz there for that reason.

And I much prefer the OC environment than stupid liberal SF and driving through it!

Glad to hear USF gave you a good aid package. After reviewing US News and the USF web-page, it did not appear to me as if they offered much in financial aid.
