<p>Fowles is the renowned English author of The French Lieutenant's Woman and The Magus. Visiting writers in the program have included Salman Rushdie, Luisa Valenzuela, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and Willis Barnstone.</p>

<p>The Center has also started an innovative fiction-writing workshop, with entrance open to anyone from the community (for free); participants are chosen by Chapman faculty based on a submitted writing sample. Writers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome: "We don't put any limitations on applicants, either by age or by backgrounds: "Who can tell where the next good writer will come from?" </p>

<p>This free, intensive workshop is an example of the generous spirit, community engagement, and forward-looking optimism that Chapman is well known for.</p>
