That’s what I’ve heard… and that you can also enable direct deposits (which I don’t know what that means LOL, unless it means our bank accounts?)

No. Your financial aid is disbursed to UCSC. They take their cut first, and then either send you a check for the remainder (assuming there is a remainder), or, if you signed up for direct deposit (which you absolutely should, if you have a bank account – you’ll get the $ quicker, usually within the first couple days of the courses) it’ll just be deposited straight into your account, no hassle.

(edit) – if you have financial aid pending (waiting for disbursement), then late fees should not apply to you, btw.

Empire, so to clarify:

In my case, I owe 8k something in charges, however my pending aid is just over 10k.

So, since aid is disbursed on the 15th, and payments are due on the 16th, can I be certain that my aid will automatically be applied to my charges? Do I need to do anything through their SalliMae system/e-checking? Or can I just relax knowing that my pending aid is more than enough to pay for my charges (and I have already signed up for direct deposit).

You can totally relax (though, feel free to confirm this with a quick call to the financial aid office). That’s what I’ve done every quarter since my first (Winter 2010). It’s nice not having to worry about college tuition. I just wish more people had the luxury…

Btw, your portal will say that your charges for the quarter are late (since aid is disbursed after the official due date), but no need to worry about that as long as F/A is covering your entire tuition for the quarter.

Nice. So it’s the school’s way of saying “You just got Punk’d!”

Well, guess I still got one last phone to those bastards in me :P

Looks like they tweaked my aid. I got a reduction in my UCSC grant which was 14,000 and now is 5,000 but got CAL grant A which is 10,000. Regardless of the changes my accepted aid didn’t change and i got more pending aid for the qtrly break down.
