Chat with a current student!

Hi, the fourth-years interning in the University of Chicago's Communications Office are available to g-chat if you have any questions about student life, or if you just want to talk about how excited you are about the University of Chicago! We have been here for four years, so we have a wealth of knowledge to share, and we look forward to hearing from you.

We are available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 AM until 2:30 PM, and soon we'll be available during those hours Monday-Friday, so send a chat invitation to uc.askme@gmail! Feel free to send us an email if we're not online and we'll get back to you ASAP.

Keep in mind that we are not admissions officers, so queries about your SAT's, requirements, deadlines, financial aid and all that other official stuff should be directed to the Admissions Office.

Guys-- definitely take advantage of this! I can vouch that these are real, live UChicagoans who will be happy to talk to both admitted and prospective students alike.

Thanks Grace! The other intern, Adam, will also be available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:30-2:30, so feel free to chat with him as well!

Just a reminder to make use of the bastion of knowledge provided by the undergrads in the Communications Office by sending us a g-chat invitation (or just an email) at uc.askme@gmail. I am on the edge of my wheely chair, waiting with bated breath to answer your profoundest inquiries about dorms, scav, the perfect winter coat, etc.

This is great! I sent my deposit yesterday, so I’ve obviously decided, but I still have some questions. Can I place out of any requirements (overall I love the Core, except one or two things)? Are there any specific internships in DC that the university has close ties to and/or specifically facilitates?

Jump on gchat and we can discuss further, but I placed out of a couple Core requirements, and I know of a few consistently awesome summer Metcalf internships in DC (Metcalf internships are fellowships where the university pays you $4000 to do a summer internship that, generally, would otherwise be unpaid). Metcalfs include really high-profile places like the Cato Institute and big names in international law, and also smaller nonprofits where you get more hands-on experience–they are all over the country but there are usually lots in DC. Definitely worth looking into.

If you have APs in math and science, you can place out of a bunch of Core classes. I only had to take a quarter of Bio topics.

You can also test out of the language requirement if you do well enough in terms of AP or placement. Every other Core class is mandatory, though.

Thanks UChicagoAskMe and dunbar! Yeah I pretty much would seek to place out of the math requirement, the rest I’m having a hard time choosing from (too many appealing sequences). I have a question about the Bio requirements though. At the moment my main interests lie along the lines of International Studies/Sociology, but there is a chance that I will want to pursue a minor or maybe attempt to double major with Bio. I plan on fulfilling the Biology requirements in the first two quarters, so would it be possible to start the sequences that count towards a Bio major in the third quarter if I suddenly decide to major/minor in Biology at that point?
