Hey guys,

Wondering if any of the CPAs or aspiring CPAs can recommend a cheap source of CPA exam study materials. I know there is a site that gives several hundred free practice problems, but I'm looking for a "full" review book/course that is cheap, under a couple hundred dollars per section, but still gives you everything you need to pass. I know once I get my official offer my firm will pay for Becker, but for now I need something cheap that I can front the money for until I get reimbursed. I looked into CPAExcel, and the barebones version is about $305 per section, 20% off with a student discount. Wondering if there is something cheaper and/or how this course is.

Any suggestions would be great.

Did you try Gleim? Or Wiley direct, you can get the Wiley individual materials for cheap.

Another 71 has a significant discount on the Wiley Test Bank, which has thousands of updated multiple choice questions. It is a good supplement for just about any other product you wind up using.

Haven’t really looked into Gleim. I havent heard much in regards to good or bad reviews from anyone, but it seems fairly cheap. As far as the Wiley books, they definitely fit the bill of cheap, but I’ve heard there is a lot of unnecessary detail that is difficult to wade through.

And bthomp1, yes I saw that Wiley test bank, I will consider getting it in addition to what I get.

domrom,

Got it, I can tell you I’m using CPA Excel. The Online Self Study Video Course is only $1,000 with the student discount and it comes with the Wiley Test Bank for about 12 months with the promotion. The best thing about this is that you pay once and receive updates going forward UNTIL you pass all four parts of the CPA Exam and become licensed.

Email support at CPA Excel (which is really just Wiley’s support team due to Wiley buying them out) and ask them for a financing plan.

Thanks jotucker83. Another option I’m looking into is just financing the Becker, that way I don’t really have to lay out much money while I wait to be reimbursed by the firm.

If cost is no option, is Becker really the best, or can CPAExcel or RogerCPA be better in some peoples minds? Its hard to find reviews that dont weigh the cost of Becker, and rightfully so.

Becker is very expensive, three times the cost of CPA Excel at minimum. When you say your firm is paying for it, would they pay for the entire Becker course? If so, it wouldn’t matter, if not…Becker is very expensive and there’s other better costing options out there. Using ANY of the high quality CPA Review courses should be efficient, as long as you put the time and effort into the review preparation which should take you about 300-400 hours (6-7 months) on average.

“When you say your firm is paying for it, would they pay for the entire Becker course?”

To be honest, that’s something I guess I would have to ask HR. I’m fairly certain someone who is with this same firm told me they pay for it. He got his sent to him post-FT offer.

That said, if they are willing to just reimburse, I will probably get one section of CPAExcel or Roger, and then if I like it, I’ll continue with that and let them pay for it. If I don’t, I’ll just get comped for that and go to Becker from the firm.
