So I am trying to find an online AP course provider whose work is self-paced and takes about 5 hours per week. Specifically, I am interested in an online AP course for AP Chemistry or AP US History. Preferably, the course should cost between $300-$600. I also live in the South if that might help.
you can find free courses without gpa on edx. AP chemistry can be done (by being done, i mean getting a confident 5) with just your motivation, Khan Academy as a supplement, youtube videos(theres a series, pm me for info) that comes with textbook, and a simple edx course to cover the labs and extra material. If you use barrons for hard questions, you will be more confident.
@waterbrether725 Im talking about actual courses with GPA that can be transferred to a high-school
Hello, you have many options.
You should contact your school to be safe and see if the course will be transferable, you don’t want to take a class and not get credit. For example I reside in California and the online courses I take have to be a - g approved so I look at the list of a - g approved online curriculums provided on UC’s website.
Even though you’re not in CA you could use the website to look for curriculums

Select “online publisher” and “AP” at the left column, then you can type in US History, Chemistry, etc.
UCScout would be good for APUSH, you will choose the “on demand” option priced at I believe almost 300 per semester.
In order to get credit for AP Chem, a lab is needed (at least in my state) so you might need to find a way to take those in person labs. Anyway, K12 might be a good option… I would recommend chemadvantage but they’ve already began and it’s not self-paced.
Online courses are not easy, they will still be like a regular in-person AP class and some may say it’s even harder because you practically have to teach yourself. Just a warning, you will have to spend more than 5 hours a week per each subject and for most curriculums, tests will be proctored.
@mltiere Thx
Have you considered FLVS for AP US History? They don’t offer AP Chem, but if you live in Florida it’s free. If you live outside Florida, it’s $400 for an AP class, and it seems you’re willing to spend that much. Like mltiere says, online courses aren’t all that easy, and it’ll probably be more like 2-4 hours a day per week in order to meet FLVS submission requirements. But I still highly recommend it, I took APUSH with FLVS and their reviews and resources helped me get a 5 on the exam. I even recommend carving out your weekends if you find trouble balancing it during the weekday, that could help you avoid falling behind. Definitely do some research on that, and see if it fits in your schedule well.
I’m an FLVS expert basically LOL (I’ve taken nearly 24 credits with it) so if you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
Also the deadline to sign up for any AP courses with FLVS is Nov. 30, so definitely make a decision about that soon.
@Classicgirl17 Thx!
BYU has several, under 170$, no chem or USH. Bio, calc, psych.
@Sybylla Thx
Make sure to check if your school will actually accepts the credits, if that is your goal. For example, my school does not accept any outside credit.
@wonderfulreads Thx
AP Chem can NOT be done with “just your motivation” lol! It’s known as one of the more conceptual/“hard” AP’s (of course it depends on your strengths). An online course might work better though. I don’t know anything about online AP’s, but I just had to stop the whole “self-study chem!” thing haha sorry
@Mahindra I second FLVS. If you live in Florida like me, it’s easily the best option and they have a ton of AP courses.
Be careful with BYU and make sure that the materials are current. (You may need to call them.)
@esperantist I dont live in florida
I thought FLVS was 400 per semester so 800 in total. Correct me if I’m wrong.
