Cheap places to stay and orientation

I was wondering if parents stay just for move-in day, or do they stay over the weekend up to the first day of registration and leave on Tuesay?

Also, does anyone know any decent cheap nothing fancy but clean rooms, B&Bs, hotels, motels, anything under $100/night? Everything is over $100 that I've been looking at. Is anyone going up early? Where are you staying?

on regular board. this topic is being discussed.

google B&B’s - the laws of supply & demand mean that the few hotels in Ithaca are very overpriced during peak periods - like move-in and graduation.

having moved two students in ( plus having been a student moved in!!) parents are generally there for move-in and the next day if you live far away - then they take you out to eat and go to their hotel and leave. they should not stay thru Tuesday!!! No no no!!

Where do I go for this?

instead of searching on the Class of 2013 board, search on the Cornell board. There is a SEARCH feature on the right side near the top. click it and then type in Orientation. Search for it by TITLE as there is too much otherwise. every year new accepted students ask the same questions…there is a lot of helpful(and not so helpful) advice given in previous years. But do make your resvs soon if you are traveling from a distance!!

Trip Advisor gives great reviews of Cornell hotels/motels. Also Priceline is a good way to get a bargain. Good luck.

Hi we have stayed everywhere! Even as far away as Binghamton when Ithaca was “sold out” The least expexsive, clean, decent, no frills, with breakfast, place to stay is the Super 8. It might be sold out by now but keep trying. We just paid $80 for one night last Thursday when we went up to take our freshman daughter home. Don’t forget to look into graduation! No Kidding! Many places are taking $1000 now for Memorial day weekend 2012 already! We ahve not comitted yet! Everone left Sunday morning last year at Orientation. Some did just drop and run on Friday.

Cortland and Elmira have some affordable hotel places to stay. Definitely not worth paying 400-600+ a night to stay in Ithaca hotels.

Agreed - there are hotels just outside of Ithaca that are a LOT cheaper than all the Ithaca hotels.

Try the Super 8 in Binghamton as suggested by “mamagina” – one of the better deals. Ithaca will be booked. If you are willing to make the trip, you can stay in Syracuse as well.
