Hey everyone I have a friend thats a newbie at CU and he needs to know where are all the cheap spots are. I know its NYC and it may be as cheap as the .50 burgers at the yale buttery but where are some cheap spots for food?

http://www.cueats.com/ is a good resource (uploaded menus from nearby restaurants)

I'm not inclined to offer recommendations myself (I think cheapness is relative -- depends on what you like to order and what sort of meal you're looking for), but I find that I can get a very satisfying dinner at places like Tom's, Pinnacle, Columbia Cottage, etc. for $6-$7). Those same places can also be pretty expensive for certain dishes too, though.

Koronets Pizza, known for its jumbo slices (huuugge) is probably the most well known cheap eatery around CU.

I second Koronet's Pizza. Their slices are a gigantic 15 inches. I believe a slice of pepperoni is something like $2.75. One slice is a meal.

At Koronet's a plain slice is 2.75 and each topping is an extra dollar...I suggest you get the plain since they slap on the topping and reheat it after its made...not worth the extra buck.

As for cheap food the two best places to get a tasty, cheap, filling meal are Hamilton Deli (116th & Amsterdam, open 24hrs except sunday) and M2M (115th & Broadway). They both offer mostly regular and grilled sandwiches and burgers but M2M has hot food platter for lunch that is super cheap. As for Hamilton, their specialty burgers are awsome and under 8 bucks with fries.

If you are looking for more upscale eats head on up between 120 and 125th streets on Amsterdam where you will find nice places like Sezz Medi and Max Soha and other places that will serve you a nice meal for under 20 bucks and definately a good place to take a date.

As for the worst places: Ollies is terrible...I have personally gotten sick from eating there and know a couple of people who have had similar experience. Tom's is quite bad as well...go there for the milkshakes and the attraction but beyond that the food is very bad and the service is atrocious. Pinnacle and Koronets offer greesy pizza that is definately not for the health-concious. Your better bet is to find a few friends and order Papa John's or Domino's.

Price is not the main consideration (though of course it is) - value is. I want a good deal for my money because I'll be pinching pennies so hard lincoln will cry.

Sounds good, I'll see you guys there.

The Lions will come first in the Ivy League before you'll find a 50 cent burger around Columbia. If you feel like traveling, Gray's Papaya is pretty awesome. 2 hot dogs and a drink for $2.75. M2M on Broadway also does a burger and fries for under 5 bucks and it's pretty good.

But what meal plan should I get? I'm a pretty hefty eater, but I wish to keep my somewhat lean body. Should I get more meals, or dining dollars and diversify? (Or maybe live off Ramen Noodles) Lastly which spot is the cheapest?

MORE DINING DOLLARS!!

you'll understand why by the time december rolls around.

Even the leanest freshman meal plan is literally too large to ever be entirely used up. It's a truly atrocious scam.

I agree with Kornett's. The jumbo slice is truly a beautiful thing.
