Ever since Megabus died on the west coast (sadness!) I don't know how to get back to socal for Thanksgiving break. I personally think $200 is too pricey for a round-trip ticket that's only for three days (Southwest Airlines).

I've also been looking up Amtrak (~$66 for a 10 hour one way) and the Greyhound (~$90 one way). Perhaps I've been spoiled too much by Megabus prices.

Anyway, do you guys have any cheaper ways to go home, such as carpooling or by a special bus shuttle that I don't know about? Or do you just celebrate Thanksgiving at the res hall?

I don't know how expensive airline tickets have gotten at this point, but as it gets closer and closer to November, less tickets will be available and prices will be higher. The best time to buy Thanksgiving airline tickets is now or in the past.

What you could do is find someone who's driving to or by wherever you live and split gas. However, this way is harder to arrange and is not always dependable.

School Holiday =/= Administrative Holiday, but Administrative Holiday = School Holiday.

Administrative holiday is just when the offices will be closed. When there is an admin holiday, there will be no school, but there are periods of time when there is no school but the administration is still working.

The dates you're interested in are the last day of finals (Dec 20) and the "Instruction Begins" (Jan 20).

I used Craigslist rideshare a couple of times before, it worked out pretty well. Cheapest option. about 6-7hrs to LA. Check both SF and LA craigslists.
