OK, I’m getting ahead of the game, but before everyone else buys up the cheap seats I’m buying S’s tickets home for Thanksgiving and Christmas (several are already gone). Thankfully we live in New England so he can come home for both. He’ll be flying in and out of BWI. Does American offer any shuttle service during the holiday season? We know the other routes (MARC train and/or the shuttle from Greenbelt Metro station), and maybe he can share a cab with friends, but I know that other DC area schools offer shuttles so just checking it out.

The university does not have a shuttle to get to airports… To get to BWI most people Metro over to Union Station and then take Amtrak - if you get your Amtrak tickets early I think they are 11$. If your flight is early in the morning and taking the Metro is not an option, many people use shuttle services such as Supershuttle.

The university does have the shuttle back/forth from the Metro as well as to Target and other stores during welcome week.

I would have though National was easier to get to from AU. Am I wrong?

Reagan National is the easiest airport to get to from campus - just take the Metro. But not all airlines fly into Reagan. I think Southwest only flies into BWI.

He’ll be heading to BWI as long as we can get cheap flights on Southwest, but we know that isn’t always the best plan. In fact for Thanksgiving he’ll be flying out of National since SWA was already sold out on the cheap flights. While SWA does have 2 free checked bags, the convenience of doing only the Metro to National will sometimes win out.
BTW, for those of you not familiar with it, Amtrak isn’t way to get to BWI from Union Station. MARC has trains ($6 vs. $11 on Amtrak). Or, if you take the Metro all the way out to Greenbelt there is an express bus to BWI ($6). http://www.wmata.com/bus/timetables/md/b30.pdf
