I was hoping to visit Oberlin over my spring break (week of April 13) but was too anxious about my financial aid situation to book plane tickets. Now, of course, they're a bit pricier, so I'm searching for a cheaper way to get there. I live in California.

So far, I've found plane tickets for about $150 each way, but the plane lands in Akron/Canton. Is there a cheap way to get from there to Oberlin? Or should I pay a couple hundred more to fly into Cleveland?

Also, where is the schedule for the Lorain County Transit route that goes from Cleveland to Oberlin? I can't seem to find it.

I think the only feasible way to get from the Akron/Canton airport to Oberlin would be to rent a car and drive (which, if you’re coming by yourself, presumably isn’t possible since you’re under 21).

From California (northern, anyway), the way to go is Southwest or Continental to Cleveland. Continental has direct flights; Southwest has a stop in Chicago. Trying to go from Akron will end up costing you more in ground transportation, time, and aggravation. There is a bus from the airport to Oberlin for about $7 or you can take a cab, which is more like $50. The schedule for the Lorain County buses can be found on the internet. It stops near the campus.

Ah, what a pain. I think I found a better flight deal (which involves me hopping off three planes to get to Cleveland, if that’s realistic) but still wondering about the LCT schedule. The page on the official website won’t load for me, so can anyone confirm the accuracy of the one posted on the Oberwiki?

Actually, monydad, I don’t find the schedule for Route 33 there (or anywhere else online either, for that matter). I spent a fair amount of time searching, to try to help birdhouse out, but struck out. birdhouse, you could always phone the number listed on monydad’s website…

Yeah, I guess I’ll have to do that today. I was also thinking of e-mailing Oberlin admissions, too, since the info they put on the back of my All Roads brochure differs from what little info there is on the Oberwiki (ex. where the buses meet at the airport).

Don’t count on the exact times without calling them, but it will give you an idea of where to catch the bus, about how frequently it runs and how long it takes.

this is what I have (it is a little confusing, because it was copied from the web and lost some of the formatting); it may have changed…
