What happens if the Collegeboard thinks someone cheated on the SAT? I think the person behind me copied some, if not all, of my previous SAT and honestly the proctor wasn’t even paying attention the entire time.
There is an investigation and the entire class has it’s scores delayed. The CB will check to see if cheating actually did occur. If there is, they might invalidate everyone’s scores and give everyone a free test(except, maybe the cheater, but idk about what happens to the cheater).
Ok but how would they know if he cheated or I did
2 ways.
- Someone reports the cheating. The proctor, another student, you.
- The tests are randomized. The sections are not the same. You might have Critical reading for section 2, and the guy behind you might have math for section 2. If he blindly copied your answers, and you had ABCDE, and he copied the same thing down, in math, while the answers are for CR, that would raise a red flag, if they catch it. This would be because he had the same answers as you, even though the sections are different. On top of that, they know where each student was sitting, so they would know he was sitting behind you. Also, remember when you gridded in your test book number? Well, they can easily retrieve your test book. If he has no work done, has the same answers as you, except in the wrong sections, and was sitting behind you, then it is quite obviously cheating, on his part of course. He has no work, and the correct answers to other sections in the wrong section, which would be correct in your test.
He had the exact same sections except the experimental, which he didn’t copy, obviously. Also, I don’t think they know where we were sitting.
The proctor fills out a sheet to show where each student was sitting and gives it to the CB. Also, this is IF they pick it up. If they pick it up, and the cheater has done no work but magically got all the answers that you got, this is incorrect and correct, and you did work, then they can tell who cheated. Of course, it might go undetected.
I showed all my work, so that’s good. I honestly don’t want the kid to get caught lol, but at this point, there isn’t much I can do. Also, the setting wasn’t very possible for me to cheat. I sat in the front row; however, the room is on an incline (like any seminar room), so if the person behind someone has the same test, it’s hard not to cheat. I’ll let you know what happens on April 2nd
The most damaging evidence (aside from witnesses) is not correct answers that match, but incorrect answers that match. Successful test-takers can only be successful in one way. Unsuccessful test-takers can be unsuccessful in countless permutations of ways. So when a pattern of wrong answers shows up, the CB notices.
