So, I took the SAT for the first official time on March 9th. During the exam, the guy next to me was copying off of me. He had the same version..I'm not sure how, but I took a peek to make sure and he did. I tried hiding my answer sheet, but there's only so much you can hide. I think he copied a lot of math and a good portion of the Reading Comprehension. He seemed to be doing all the essay work and Writing sections on his own. I am very, very scared because I know ETS flags tests with similarities in the same room. Is that going to happen? I worked so hard on this!

I dunno what to tell u… honestly, tough position…
you should have told a proctor or sth…
But what’s done is done…
I am sure he didn’t copy off that much… you can may be email them…
But again that might attract their (unwanted) attention…

Just wait, pray and hope… :D

Someone help out the kid with more professional advice! ;P

Do you think it will get flagged??
Please, someone help me out with more info… Bump

definitely won’t get flagged

Do you think so? How do you know? What I was thinking is that it’s my first time, so an increase that’s large won’t lead them to investigation. Also, he did portions of it on his own… I’m very scared. I worked way too hard on this for it to be flagged and questioned

wow… that guy

From what I’ve read, tests usually get flagged for having the same pattern of wrong answers. So if you did very well, and he got more wrong answers, it seems likely that you will be fine.

If you want, you can report him for cheating: [Contact SAT by e-mail, phone or mail](<a href=“The SAT – SAT Suite | College Board”>Contact Us – SAT Suite | College Board)

I doubt that you’ll be questioned or flagged. If you do, tell the officials your story, and I’m pretty sure they’ll be lenient with you. But you really should have told the proctor if you were that sure somebody was cheating off of you.

How do they immediately know that there are the same wrong answers? I thought that only happens when they further investigate after a previous flag. I didn’t tell the proctor because I was not immediately aware of the effects of what had just happened.
I am not sure how many wrong answers I had, but I did see him do a solid portion of some sections on his own and I also highl doubt he copied any of my Writing sections because his head was down.

Does anyone know anyone with similar experiences or has had a similar experience? Also, do you think I may not get flagged because this is my first test? I’m very scared, and I know I didn’t do anything wrong, but officials don’t know that, and I have worked very, very hard.

Bump…someone please help me out here.

Seriously, contact SAT so you won’t get in trouble.

Sent from my HTC One X+ using CC

I have no information on the person, though. I don’t even know who he is.

If you search old posts your can read about specific instances where people have had their scores flagged. Apparently ACT runs a computer program that identifies unusual answer patterns.
If (BIG if) it happens to you, it isn’t the end of the world! The ACT test police won’t come get you, they would just require you to retake the test to prove your score.
Were you distracted by the thought of this guy possibly copying off of you? You might want to consider retaking the test anyway if your attention was on him instead of the test.

No, my total attention wasn’t on the guy… I thought that I actually did well, until that night when it all clicked and it all made sense, and I realized how huge of a situation I’m in. Does the SAT run that program too?

I would feel like a huge disappointment if it did happen…

I also heard that the system requires two indicators for the test to be flagged…is this true? For example…great raise in score along with similar answers and such?

Bump…any thoughts, please??

College Board does flag scores with about a 500+ increase, as well as tests with strings of similar wrong answers.
But truthfully, I think you are worrying yourself sick. Scores do not come out a while, so besides contacting College Board, there is nothing you can do. I implore you, just wait. Put it out of your mind for about two weeks, and if your scores come, then awesome. But if you get flagged, and I’m positive you won’t, you can argue your case.
It’ll work out, so stop worrying.

How are you positive that they won’t get flagged? Honestly, the only thing working in my case is the fact that I have not taken the SAT previously

If really is bothering you this much, do something about it. Simply contact the SAT. But seriously, you need to relax; you did not do the cheating. No one can know for sure if it will get flagged or not. Freaking out will not help the situation, nor your mental health. It seems to be troubling you, so take the advice of previous posters: contact collegeboard, you don’t actually need to know anything about the guy.
