The Summer & Fall Orientation info is now available. You cannot register until Feb. 4th, but you can take a look at the orientation dates and additional info.

Wow, thank you for the update!

When does everyone want to go? We will probably try for one of the dates in the middle (not the first but not the last weeks). My daughter has prom on May 17 and Graduation on May 23 so we have to work around that.

My daughter & I will be going June 2-3 (Honors orientation).

Ah. I've got to go to the June 2 - 3rd one but my graduation is June 4th and rehearsals and whatnot (arts school... our graduation is more of a production than walking across the stage for a diploma) are that week.

So does anyone know if there's any extra dates that are usually scheduled?

We couldn't attend the Honors orientation in June last year due to a long-scheduled conflict. If you're doing honors, call the Honors college and ask which other dates they recommend. I think they had two other orientation dates that Honors recommended. I would have loved to have been able to attend the Honors Orientation, but everything worked out with the days we attended.

I was really impressed with the UCF orientation last year. More so than with UF a couple of years before...

if your staying overnight do you need to get there the day orientation starts or the day before it starts. going june 2-3 so do we need to get there june 1?

No JTaylor, If you are doing the June 2-3 orientation you need to be in the student union at about 8 AM (usually they give you a 1/2 hour to come, pick up your packet, and get settled in the ballroom). If you are coming from a distance, then I do suggest staying the night before at a nearby hotel. The second day of orientation you will be finished between 2:30 and 4 pm (depending on how long it takes you to register for your classes). My daughter took 15 minutes to register and was done by 2 pm (since she had planned out her entire schedule beforehand, including the section numbers that she wanted) but other kids took about 2 hours to figure out how to find what classes they wanted and get registered.

We came to orientation from South Florida, a three hour drive, so we stayed at a hotel the night before and during orientation. We drove home after my daughter was done registering and after we did a tour of the dorm that she would be living in (they give tours of all the dorms on the second day of orientation).

thank you so much. this was really helpful.also where do you find the course catolog caude on the website they have one from 08-09 but it wont download.

and what classes do you have to take freshman year.

also what classes are good to take over the summer??

thank you in advance!!!

JT- Over the summer, take two general education classes. My daughter took AMH 2010 (US History) and FIL 1000 (cinema survey) for a total of 6 credits. She really enjoyed the film class and had a good teacher for AMH (check rate my professors for different ratings). If you go on myUCF, there is a place to “browse the course catelog”.

Is the three credit course “Freshman Seminar” a required course? If not, any opinions on it? Is there any additional work involved outside of the class hours?

The Freshman Seminar is recommended but not required. My daughter felt that she already had good study skills and did not need any new tips and so didn’t take it. My friends daughter took the class and felt that it was very useful.

To JTaylor this is what the orientation website says- “Residence Hall check-in will be between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. the day before your scheduled Orientation Session.”

Wait… you mean UCF shares the sexual orientation of its students?
