Check this DVD -> Harvard

So I wrote on my app for Harvard that I am sending in an 'art supplement', a dvd I created, under the option of short film as thy describe on their website. Its not exactly artsy, but I convinced them technology is the new art in a cover letter. So tell me what you think, its was a presentation for Physics, but, it displays any technical/art skills I have.

Make sure to turn up the volume as the audio recording was sometimes blurry. Its much better quality on the DVD.

Physics Project

I didn't watch the whole thing because I got bored, but I don't really thinks it is relevant to a college application. I'm sure it was a good Physics projects but it is not very artsy and all it basically shows is that you are capable of making a video presentation. I think the admissions officers might get annoyed by this six minute school project you are asking them to watch. (sorry if this was harsh, but I'm just trying to be honest)

lol yeah this just made me go...whut?

I don't really see how this shows off how artsy you are.

I agree with lehcar. To be completely honest, the video was not well-done. I had no clue what was going on. It needs to be much more succinct, to the point, and most importantly, exciting to watch. The people at Harvard's admissions office don't want to listen to someone drone on about physics for 6 or 7 minutes(they only have about 30 minutes to read your application in full) unless the video is exciting and captures their interest.

I must ask: Why? What is this video supposed to do for your application? Show that you can teach? Show that you're interested in physics? Show that you're capable of making a video? Please, ask yourself that before you force an adcom to watch a video for 6-7 minutes.

this is artsy or just random or weird

MySpaceTV Videos: Auto by XYU

What I learned from the video
1) The applicant is nicknamed AK-47.
2) o.O

Yes, I was iffy about it myself. I already marked that I am sending something, and they will probably expect it, what should I do?

I like physics as much as the next nerd, but this is just not interesting.

~Pulls out Physics textbook for relief~

No, I am just kidding. It is not that bad. It is just not impressive. Anyone, with time, can learn how to create video presentations using a variety of software.

I, for one, am not convinced the physics types at Harvard want to see art. The art discipline and the hard science and math of physics are at opposite end of the spectrum if you ask me.

You could probably just call or e-mail them and tell them that you won't be sending in a supplement.

Yeah...............no. It's obviously a good presentation seing as you won some awards, but I would think that in the eyes of an admin. officer, all this vid. does is make you look like another stereotypical science nerd. Not artsy at all and I would def. not send it in.

nevermind, you get the point.

yea, wouldn't help a lot... a lot of people do thinks like this - I've made a lot of mini-videos; I, also, at one point was thinking about sending a video in, maybe a history project I'd done in 6th grade (it was actually really good for a 6th grader) or something like yours, but I decided against it since it's not really anything special and won't set you apart

you spelled electromagnetics wrong.

Yeah, yeah, I uh, I got the point, several posts ago.
amb3r, love your tone.......

sigh

Thanks for watching though

That was absolutely terrible.

The Harvard admissions committee would probably like "I just wasted 6 minutes of my life watching this", but they probably won't even watch the whole thing! If anything, this will harm your application... Absolutely terrible

I might be the only one in the whole world who thinks he should send it in..

Hey, you guys think you can deliver your message in a better tone. I know, I'm not sending it. No point being mean. I'm just at the end of my rope here, doing everything I can....

Hey, you live in a really nice house....

I sympathize with your being at the end of your rope. However, the best approach to applying to any school, and ESPECIALLY to Harvard, is NOT "desperately throw anything you can think of in your application, see what sticks." Present your strongest points clearly, write good essays, and mail everything out on time.. that's all any of us can do :)
