Silly question - how far in advance can I order from BBB/Target to be held?. Like can I order in June or do I have to wait until the beginning of August.
@labegg, you can order in June.
@Reedsmom, unfortunately the online ordering for BB&B did not work well for me last year. We ended up having to call the store directly and order through them. It might also be worth talking to the school directly to see if they have any program run through the school. My daughter’s school offers a program where students can order a lot of the supplies and have them delivered to the dorm or to a central location on campus.
If offered, pay the fee for early move in. (You may have to call the school to ask if it’s available. The stress you will eliminate is so worth the money. I think we paid $30 at Kent State last year. Plenty of parking, plenty of carts to use to move her stuff to her dorm. No issues with elevators.
I was truly sad at having her move in a day early and cried most of the way home to our newly very empty home… but again move in day can be stressful and in the end we were thankful we did things that way.
Hi, I am reading this hoping to learn quite a bit. My DD is heading off this fall to college. My first one to go away.
I’m not a big fan of BBB so I’d rather pay and deal with shipping if needed than deal with BBB.
I am hoping we can move in a day earlier and avoid the crowds. Gives us time to explore the city a little.
I have a really dumb question about bedding. I’m planning on ordering a mattress topper and a mattress cover, and I don’t understand if the mattress topper goes under the cover or over it. D’oh! Can anyone help?
@Momofmrb Not a dumb question! I think the mattress cover is supposed to protect the bedding and basically contain the mattress. I think most mattress covers are not large enough to accommodate the topper anyway.
Thank you @RyanG1207. :-*
Yes I plan on getting the mattress cover just to keep the dustmites down. My daughter has allergies so trying to minimize those triggers. I will probably put a topper on then the sheets.
@Momofmrb, The mattress topper went underneath the mattress cover and sheet on D15’s bed. It compresses it some but it worked fine. All her friends are jealous of how comfy her bed is. We got this one from Amazon for about $60 and it has been just fine according to D:Sleep Innovations 2-Inch Memory Foam Twin XL Mattress Topper. We also got her a bedbug mattress cover and pillow cover.
I think she means a mattress cover that goes all around the mattress and zips up, containing dust mites. Then on that you could put a foam mattress topper, then on that you could put a quilted mattress pad, and then finally the fitted sheet.
I purchased a 3" memory foam topper and a cotton topper because the foam causes S to overheat. I’m hoping that the sheets will be deep enough to accommodate both toppers.
@mommdc - you are correct. I got it wrong. The mattress cover (bedbug thing) was a pain to actually put on. If you loft beds, do it BEFORE the beds are lofted
Don’t want to hear the word bedbugs
The best thing we put on our list was the book “Making College Count.” it was a huge help to our daughter… as I haven’t been to college for 30 years and a lot has changed. I read the book … and she did too … and got a 3.8 freshman year, better than her high school GPA!
There are two books with that title on Amazon. Who is the author? Thanks.
Yes, I checked and there is two books.
I think the recommended book is by O’Brien. The other one is tightly Christian focused, and O’Brien’s is targeted at a more general audience.
Very very useful thread. I will benefit greatly from this, thanks CC!
