Has anyone heard anything about Susan Verberne-Sutton, who is doing one of the Chem 102 lectures? She appears to be new, having just come from Tenn State U. Only two people rated her on ratemyprofessors.com when she was at TSU, but both viewed her very favorably. We are wondering about options for our son, who is not impressed by Phillips. There still are openings in Verberne-Sutton's class at 8am on T and Th.

Your son also has the option to sit in on other lectures, regardless of the course he is taking. Pretty sure all chemistry students take the same exam (don’t quote me on that). As long as the professor doesn’t have pop quizzes or attendance, you can actually just attend all of the lectures of a different professor.

You probably won’t find any opinions on this prof here or from any students – I don’t think she has ever taught a course here. Perhaps son should ask in the Vandy Class of 2018 page what students think of her after the first few lectures.

Add/drop period ends at midnight tonight, I believe.

My daughter has Phillips … she hasn’t mentioned anything. Just very curious on why your son isn’t impressed? If you would rather share privately (or not share at all!) I’d completely understand. :)

As a student who is actually enrolled in Dr. Todd’s section of Chemistry, I can say that some of the students from Phillips’ class say that he just doesn’t explain things as clearly. This is obviously an opinion thing, but I just thought I’d toss in a perspective.

S had both Todd and Phillips last year. He preferred Todd and found her more interesting and engaging. S would also say that Phillips didn’t explain things as well. He had Todd first semester, but took Phillips second semester to avoid an 8 AM class.

I remember Phillips being pretty dry. But he wasn’t terrible. I did not mind him…although 8 am class was rough.

My D has Dr. List. Does anyone else have him? She wanted to get in Todd’s class but it was filled up by the 3rd round of registration.
