Chem 110DL vs AP Chem?

I am a high school senior who will be attending Duke this fall.

I was looking at the course placement info, and I found out only a 5 on the AP Chem lets you skip general chemistry—anything below means you have to take Chem 110DL. I’m a very good student in AP Chem (A+ in the class), but I stressed out and messed up badly on the AP exam last week. I think I only got a 4, which means I’ll probably be stuck taking Chem 110DL my freshman year.

How different is Duke’s Chem 110DL from the AP Chem curriculum? Will I just be sitting through everything I’ve already learned for a whole semester, or is there new material to be learned? And how badly will this affect my freshman year?

I’m sure it doesn’t seem like it now, but trust me, having a class freshman year where you already know most of the material really isn’t a bad thing. There are lots of things to be doing as a freshman other than studying, and if you’re not able to get advanced placement, you’ll appreciate the head start you have in that class. Relax. Enjoy the rest of senior year.
