i am completely stressed right now from my chem 111 class and it's only been 3 days since classes started. my lecturer (sadik) has a huge accent and no one understands a thing she is saying. her first lesson was very random and did not even seem like an introduction to the subject. her powerpoints are very vague and unspecific and all she does in the lecture is just read what she wrote on the slides. i want to ace this class, but i dont know how to study for it. the textbook's wording is very confusing, even when it is discussing simple topics. how am i supposed to pass this course. any help from people who took this course already? it's required for watson engineering.

yeah, you're gonna find a lot of math and science teachers with heavy accents all across the board.

I highly recommend you to read the textbook from start to finish. The textbook that I had, which was written by Ebbing, did a good job of explaining a lot of the concepts. The truth is, there is A LOT of stuff that needs to be covered in Chem 111 (Chem 111 = Chem 107 and Chem 108 crammed into one semester), and the professor will mostly go through a lot of the material very quickly, without explaining where it came from. This tends to go in one ear out the other, and as a result, you learn nothing.

You should also have solid math skills, since the course can become very quantitative. But having solid math skills alone won't help you if you don't know the basic chemical concepts.

Since you're in engineering, you're gonna have a lot of bad professors who can't teach. You ought to start learning how to teach yourself the material. The sooner you start, the better.
