From experience or knowledge, would it be beneficial to take 153A right after Chem 14D? or would a quarter break be okay?

biochem is a whole different ball game. quarter break will be fine. im taking 153A after a summer off.

does anyone have actual experience of taking both classes? I asked my teacher for o chem and he said its best to take 153a asap unless you have an incredible memory.

so far the only real "chem" knowledge we had to use in 153A is relative forces of covalent/noncovalent/hydrogen/van der waals interactions. henderson hasselbach and basic acid base chemistry. some basic knowledge of electron pushing.

its much more about memorizing structures and properties than it is knowing your ochem rxns.

oh okay thanks! how is villa as a teacher?

i'd say shes not that great right now (though not horrible), but this is her first quarter teaching. she went from all powerpoint to chalkboard to chalkboard and powerpoint and now i think shes settled on mainly overheads with powerpoint for figures/graphs/diagrams. i suppose thats a good thing because with the ppt all she did was read off of them.

i thought her midterm was pretty hard but other people thought it was fair/easy, so i suppose i didnt study as hard as those people did. :(

153A is NOTHING like 14D. There is very VERY little rxn mechanisms (so far). We're doing metabolism right now, so the organic material might yet come up.

btw, VTECaddict, i thought it was hard too....

i just saw the syllabus and the things to memorize and im gunna say no thank you to 153a until spring lol
