<p>I'm a freshman. Pre-health. However, I didn't take any premed courses during the fall. I plan on taking Chem 1A in the spring along with Math 16A. Would adding Physics 8A to that be too much? (labs etc)</p>

<p>Why is it that pre-health students take Physics so late? I have heard that Physics 8 series is not that hard (but harder than other classes I can take later on), so wouldn’t it be better to take it with Chem 1A instead of biology or upper division classes later?</p>

<p>8a can/cannot be hard depending on the person. It’s generally seen as a bit easier, which is my reason for taking it next year too (taking it with chem 3b). In my mind, it kind of balances out the work.</p>
<p>That schedule seems fine. Physics 8A is one of the easiest lower div major requirement for life science majors along with Math 16A.</p>
<p>Doing well in physics 8A didn’t take much critical thinking, just some common sense and intuition.</p>
<p>Long answer: If you work like you did in high school, then it shouldn’t be any trouble. If you think you can party all day, dance all night and get A’s somewhere in between then it’s not going to work.</p>

People take it later so that they don’t have to restudy it for the MCAT. Taking Biology 1B with Chem 1A is an EXTREMELY GOOD idea.</p>
<p>If you wait for Bio 1B you will end up taking it concurrently with Chem 3B. Bio 1B + Chem 3B/L is a horrible combo (though Bio 1A/L + Chem 3B/L is an even worse combo)</p>

<p>Chem 1A, Bio 1B, math for Spring
Chem 3A/L this summer
Bio 1A/L and Physics 8A for fall 10
Chem 3B/L and Physics 8B for spring 11</p>

Chem 3A/L, Bio 1A/L for fall 10
Chem 3B/L and Physics 8A for spring 11
Physics 8B for summer 11 or fall 11</p>

<p>Okay, that looks good. Thanks for the help. My only remaining concern is taking Bio 1A and 1B so far apart from each other. Are they related? ie would it be better to take them consecutively? Also, is physics considered easier than biology (assuming these series, 1 and 8). Because I don’t want to overload myself, especially with the labs. </p>

<p>Bio 1B and Bio 1A are not related. Physics can be considered easier than Bio 1A/L, I don’t know if it is fair to say it is easier than Bio 1B</p>
<p>Some people who never took physics in high school really struggled b/c you go over the very basics of the topics but you have to be able to apply them to more difficult problems. If you make time for office hours, you can do fine in it, but you just need to put in more work. I would say 8A is easier than 8B if you haven’t had physics b/c you’ve had exposure to topics like projectile motion/derivatives/etc. in math before.</p>

<p>curve is more generous, material is easier, you can basically memorize how to do problems and do fine in physics, but that’s def. not the case for chem 3a</p>

<p>It’s many times easier than Chem 3A because most professors, if not all, allow formula cheat sheets for the midterms. Not that you ever use these since making them forces you to remember all the formula…</p>
<p>Don’t be intimidated by the classes, I never took physics in high school and I did fine in 8A and 8B.</p>
