Hey everyone,

Is it a good idea to not take Chem 1B this winter, because my professor is a notoriously bad one (GE)?

FYI, I am a biology major.

Thanks

worst idea ever. if you try to get through college by avoiding all the professors, you wont finish in time. you’ll also lose the opportunity to be on the same page (and thus have the opportunity to study group or make friends) with 80% of the other bio majors unless you catch up in the summer. but then again you’d be paying a few grand just to avoid a teacher.

Thanks for the answer Jaganshi.
I think I’ll stick to chem 1b this winter then because that makes sense.

To OP-- If the teacher is dead awful, and you have the option of taking another class/summer school, then maybe you should consider that option. You can either
–take the class and suffer through it (hope the teacher is not as bad as ppl say)
–take another GE in place of the class
–take Chem 1B in the spring/summer school, if you are here in the summer.

You can also try to switch professors during the adjustment period on Friday and get the better professor. Otherwise just stick with that person. Ultimately, it’s all up to you whether or not you do well, not your professor.
