Hello, I may transfer in the fall to UCD, but I want to change my major.
This means I need to take Bis 2A-2C and Chem 2A-Chem 8B.

I have never taken physics and I saw on the prereqs physics is strongly recommended. How will I do if I never taken physics in my life?
Also for Bis 2A, it also says chemistry is recommended? I would be taking Chem 2a w/ Bis 2a at the same time. I am taking prep for general chem in summer at my JC and I am taking some biochem (mostly introduction) for nursing students. Thanks!

I took Chem 2a without having taken Physics before and I did fine. As long as you place into Chemistry 2a you should be okay.

And I’ve never taken any Bis classes at UC Davis so I wouldn’t know. However, I’ve known students who have taken Bis 2a and Chem 2a in the same quarter and it’s tough but doable for some. Students generally take Chem 2a in the Fall and start Bis 2a in the Winter.

BIS 2A is mainly cell biology, and basically, the only chemistry you need to know are really basic stuff like what Na+, K+, and Ca2+ are (sodium, potassium, calcium) because I believe they’ll talk about the sodium-potassium pump, and thermodynamics.

Do incoming freshman take the placement exams at orientation or do they need to arrange to take them before then? How do you know what placement exams you need to take?

Both the chemistry and the math placement exams are to be taken online. If your major requires chemistry and math, you need to take the placement exams–they NO LONGER accept AP scores or high SAT scores to bypass the chemistry or math placement exams. At orientation, the only placement exam you take is the foreign language ones if you’re planning on taking a foreign language course in a language you’ve already received instruction in (that is, if you want to take a class like Italian and you’ve never taken the course before, you do not need to take the placement exam, but if you want to get into Italian 3, you need to take a placement exam).

You also must take the math placement exam to take Chem 2a. You need a 25 on math and a 21 on chemistry.

And you only need to take the math placement exam if you’re enrolling in Chem 2A, 2AH, Math 21A, 17A, 16A, or 12. If you skip to 21B or something with an AP test, and if you don’t need Chemistry, you do not need to take the math placement exam.

And placement for languages is really confusing. If anyone has any specific questions on that, I can answer them.
