Chem 3B chance for a A-?

Hi guys I was wondering if any of you have been in my situation and pulled off an A still. On the first midterm, the average was 110/150, SD about 28-29, I did abut 4 points below SD. On the second, I only did about average which is around 83/150, with a SD of around 31. I was wondering if its still possible to pull some sort of A if I do really well on the final

Thanks in advance for the responses

You’re in the B- range at the moment. The final is worth 225 points if I remember correctly. It’s going to be really tough… You will need to do really well on the final (something like 1.5 SD above the mean) to have a shot at that A-. You’re also gonna need a lot of people to bomb that final as well lol. Good luck and start studying for finals NOW!

so as of now I’m about 20 points above the average, to score about an A- at the end i need to be about 60-80 points above?

Thanks for your response misterelephante

your posts don’t make sense hchen…you scored 4 pts below avg on MT1 and did about average on MT2…how does that equate to about 20 pts above avg?

24 pts above average (~.75 a SD above average) is well above average for MT2.

Anyways, it’d be really hard for you to get an A-.

I did about half a SD above average on each midterm last year, got an A- and I thought the final was about the same difficulty as the midterms.

sorry i meant to say i got 24 above average on the first midterm and average on the second one. Sorry for the confusion

Ohhh i totally read that as 4 points below the mean on your first MT from your first post. That changes everything. You have a pretty good chance of getting that A- or even an A. I think this would put you roughly at the B range at the moment.

Thanks for the input misterelephante. any tips for preparing for the final?
