CHEM 6b is a prerequisite for BILD 1?

On the Marshall GE sheet it says that it is intended for engineering majors to take BILD 1, 2 or 3 for their biology course but when I try to enroll it says CHEM 6B is a prerequisite for the course! Is it necessary to take BILD 1, 2 or 3 or can I take an easier one despite what the sheet says? I don't get why you would need to take some CHEM classes to take a biology class... is this true? And if so when should I take CHEM 6B so I can enroll in BILD 1?

yes it is true

i think you can take them at the same time though (chem 6b and bild 1)

if you really want to take a bio class now you can take bild 3, it has no prerequisites

it’s not a practical prereq, though. 6B isn’t necessary for BILD 1, the latter of which can be completed with AP bio.

so BILD 1 and 2 isn’t a prereq for BILD 3? is BILD 3 the easiest one? O.o

check the course catalog for prerequisites. “easiest” is a relative term – some might argue that BILD 3 is, but honestly i think BILD 2 is the coolest. to each his own.

you can take bild 1 and chem6b together. the only reason chem is a prereq for bild 1 is because the first couple of chapters in biology deal with the properties of water, functional groups, etc. that may be more easily understood with a chem background. more so because when they start talking about phosphate groups and show you the chemical structure of it, you’ll know what P and O stand for. hahaha.

yeah, i’m taking 6b with bild1, and the only time you ever use chem6A material is in the first 2 chapters. You don’t need to take 6b before bild1 at all, since you never use it

chem 6A is a prereq for bild 1. it says so on the course catalog
