i have a rather lacking background in chemistry and would rather be placed in the slower section of chem 1a. can i communicate this to the chem department somehow in order in order to avoid taking a test i'm ill-prepared for? of course, a fine suggestion would be to take the test and see how i do, but the purpose of this placement test is to determine preparedness for the regular sections, which i'm certain would not benefit me as much as the slower ones. please comment! thanks

I'm in the same boat... I suck at chem.

Also... will there be a physics placement exam? If there is, when do we take it? I'm going to be away from the last week of July to mid August, and wouldn't want to miss it just because I'm not home.

if you look in the new student information guide it tells you the web adress and due date. The web adress of the physics test is http://www.pma.caltech.edu/GSR/froshplacement.html and the due date is July 28th.

Hamik: Just take the test and dont worry about it. You can switch chem sections any time before drop day, and you can go to any recitation session anyways (not necessarily the one youre registered in). The only difference between sections is that in the "remedial" sections the TA will tell you answers to homework and the one in the advanced section will just ramble about blackbody radiation. The lectures are the same for everyone who doesnt test out of chem1

Quoted for truth.

Hey, I just opened my test and it says "write your answer on the answer sheet given", but I can only find my problem sheet and not the answer part.
I dunno what to do ;)

Write them on a separate sheet of paper. If you've already opened your test and looked at the questions, your time limit has started, so you should get cracking.

yea, i don't have answer pages either, i'm going to write it right on the problem pages, there has to be a reason they left so much space underneath each problem.....
