I'm going CompE so I'm not required to take it, but I might switch to EE sometime, so i want to take Chem 1A. I haven't taken chemistry since Sophomore year high school and I totally forgot what it was about... all I can do now is name the elements and something about covalent bonds...

So.. how hard is the chem placement test, like what does it cover and such?

While we're at it, what does the Physics placement test cover?

just take it and don't guess on problems. unless money is a huge issue and your in a rush to graduate, it is best to place low and build yourself a strong knowledge base in chemistry than place high and be overwhelmed. the questions are pretty simple though...much easier than sat II or AP

I took it a few days ago, it seemed like it was very math-oriented. It didn't seem too difficult or have anything really in depth as far as chemistry is concerned.

If you have a decent chemistry background then you should have no problem getting in to Chem 1A. I know very few people who had to start at Chem 1P. And if you're concerned about the difficulty of the test, then you probably won't score so high and get placed in Honors Chem (95%ile and higher I think).

I didn't study for the test at all and got something like 92%ile. But I had recently taken the AP so the info was still fresh. If you study from the SAT II chem prep book I'm sure you'll be prepared.

sorry more specifically, on the site, it states a 700+ allows you eligibility into honors general chem but under "who's exempt from the test" mentions only those who've received a 4 or higher on the AP exam.
