Im still a HS student but i was wondering if Chem is a general education class that you HAVE to take?

Because I heard many things about chem like how hard it is and everything and how anyone takes it. It seems like every college student i know has taking that class and complained how hard it was. If it was THAT hard i was thinking of studying for chem this summer before i took the class.

Also, is there a site that shows all the general education classes you have to take for a UC and Cal state schools?

Chemistry is required for some majors and not for others. You need to determine what you want to study and then go from here:
[UC Davis : More than 100 majors](Majors | UC Davis)
to the individual major to find out what kind of classes you will be required to take. Many majors will not require you to take chemistry. :)

To be honest, Chemistry is NOT HARD in UCD. I’m almost certain to say that if you REALLY TRY, you can get an A no problem. Of course, the professor you take MATTERS A LOT. But tons of students take chemistry, which means the curve is usually decent no matter which professor you take. If you decide to take it, ratemyprofessors.com is your friend (which is true for all your future references).

Haha the class itself isn’t hard… it’s just the professors that make it a bigger deal than it normally is. There is only one or two, I would say, general chemistry professors that are good. At the same time, I have to admit that as a freshman and learning how to juggle and balance classes and time management, chem is most definitely a class where you learn to do so. Esp after your first couple of midterm grades

uhh dont expect an A… unless you are fantastic at chem or took AP chem… even so…

68% curved to a B-, both chem 2a and 2b.
thatz one helluva curve!

My chem classes have been brutal, but you learn a lot. Work hard and a B is manageable… work insanely and maybe an A!

hey eightonesix, which professors for gen chem are good?

You can use ratemyprof for them. But hands down, Enderle owns all. The rest are just… so-so if you ask me.

Disclaimer: I’m a graduate student in chemistry - I have TAed the 2 series.

Chem at UCD is not hard… especially the gen chem 2 series. It’s a joke, if you fail, you deserve it. The exams are made to be extremely easy. As long as you go to class & are awake during lecture, you should be fine on the exams. Every student loves Enderle, but in my opinion he teaches “Chemistry for Dummies” because he just says what happens, he doesn’t explain why. So if you plan on majoring in chemistry, or continuing on to upper division chemistry, I would HIGHLY recommend taking general chemistry from an actual chemistry professor that would force you to understand WHY. Enderle is a lecturer. If you just need “Chemistry for Dummies” then sure, take it with Enderle.

Agreed with Pearlinthemist…
CHE2 series is not hard. I took CHE2A over the summer last year. I only went to class four times in total (first lecture, 2 MT exams, Final exam) and got an A- easily… Just make sure you study and go to the discussions (they really help if you have a good TA). Oh, and the instructor’s name is Ting Guo.
