Chem199

I'm considering applying for Spring quarter.

I am currently a sophomore with junior standing (100units).
Is it too early to start this now? I feel like I need to start making connections/networking, at least something outside of pure academics.

Advice/input/opinions?

thanks in advance.

In technicality, nothing is more academic than being involved in research.

You mean network outside a classroom environment?

You’re not too young to begin doing 199s. I definitely recommend and refer many friends to get involved in research as soon as possible if they are planning to do anything with their major, be it a physical science, a social science, or even disciplines like history and ethnic studies.

it’s never too early. but make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons and not because “you think you should.”

not every professor has the same requirements for a 199 – some will hand it out w/o any expectations, others require you to commit a set number of hours every week, others will make you volunteer for a quarter before getting credit … etc. make sure you talk it over with your professor and understand what you’re getting out of it.
