I don't know much about parking - but Chemical Engineering at Delaware is one of the best programs in the country and that is VERY well known in the circles of ChemE. Delaware has very close ties to DuPont which makes the program outstanding and on par with other top schools of engineering. It's definitely a top 10 program.

Freshmen can have cars, but since parking can be tight the main lots that are centrally located are generally assigned to commuters and upper classmen. Most freshmen end up assigned to parking lots down by the sports complex, from which they take the shuttle bus up to the main part of campus. I think that the only way a freshman gets to have a car anywhere near his/her dorm is if there is a physical disability that demands auto access. Otherwise, it's down to the Bob! If you think you want to bring a car to campus, contact campus Security sooner rather than later to inquire about getting a permit.

As a freshman, you CAN get great parking if you're willing to pay for the gated lots/garages. I think it was like $800 for the year for a spot in the garage... it may have been less but I remember it being more than I expected. If you don't splurge for the gated/garage spots, marcyr is correct in saying that you will probably be at the football stadium for parking and you have to take a shuttle bus to it. Housing really varies. If you're lucky you can get a coveted dorm on the Green, if you're in honors you can get into the centrally located yet kind of old East Campus, or if you want the best of the best, new, nice dorms that are kind of far away you can be up at George Reed.

Yeah, the Chem Engineering major is great at UD. But very, very hard. Make sure you reallllly like Chem before attempting it and are willing to put in an insane amount of work.
