Sorry if this has been repeated million times already. Im a student at a community college in chicago and want to transfer to a 4-year U by fall 14. My current GPA is 3.9+. Provided that i will keep getting A's untill I finish at the CC, I will apply to UIC, UIUC and IIT.

I basically have just a few questions:
1. What are the chances of getting accepted/getting a scholarship?
2. My 1st choice is UIC because of the price, however if I was to choose IIT or UIUC, would it be worth paying the difference or moving out? (IIT is ridiculously expensive from what i hear and UIUC would add living cost since i'd have to move out of my parent's house).
3. How do each of them compare when it comes to job recruiting?

Its just 2 years. Go with Urbana Champaign. Spread your wings.

thanks man. anyone else?

Engineering? Definitely UIUC

Have you checked what the prices would be for you on their net price calculators?

Yes. estimated for UIC is almost 0 ($5000, all of which in personal expenses category), IIT NPC doesnt work and UIUC is around $15000 (minus $2.5k for personal exp.).

Also what do you think are the chances of even getting into UIUC with close to 4.0 and no extracurriculars or community service? I could possibly do something before I apply but I have a part time job that I have to keep (which I will also list on the application).

as per college navigator, average net price after grants for iit is $20k

You have to do something to attend out dude, almost everyone that’s applying to UIUC will have a 3.9 or 4.0 GPA.

UIUC, definitely. i’m a junior engineering at UIC right now, and i say this bc UIUC is ranked like number 5 in the nation for every engineering major. in the tech world where you went to school for undergrad really matters i feel, at least more than other majors. and with your gpa i’m sure youll do fine there

@xtremepower would joining something like PTK and not doing anything besides paying the sign up fee qualify as a bonus point in the EC section?

Definitely apply to all three, visit each campus and look at the financial aid package that you get from each so that you know what the total cost will be. However, I would suggest that you consider living on campus even if you end up at UIC or IIT. It is so much easier to integrate into university life and find study groups if you are on campus all the time. I advise a lot of students at IIT and I see better performance academically when the student is out of the family home.
