I applied to the University of Connecticut in order to a receive a degree in Chemical Engineering, and thats what was listed on my application, but when checking my status online, my major was changed to just Chemistry, and the school I was set to attend was the Liberal Arts school rather than the School of Engineering. I called UCONN today to try to fix it, but at this point, they said, the admission decision was probably already made, so its impossible for me to change over. Now I have no intention of not being an engineer, and my main concern now is that I may be unable to switch into chemical engineering later on in my schooling, because of how competitive uconn’s engineering program is. So, do I decide to stay at UCONN, where I may even have to stay an extra year in oder to make up for the “Foundations of Engineering” class I will not be able to attend because of my liberal arts label, or do i stick it out. I have been accepted to URI, as a chemical engineer major, but would prefer uconn. Any input?
One school didn’t take you for the major you wanted and you hope, as you admit against the odds, that they will transfer you in. The other school gives you the program you want.
Honestly, though you probably don’t like this answer, it’s pretty clear cut.
Unless URI is too expensive, it is the obvious choice. Treat UConn’s rejection from your major as a rejection overall.
Granted it’s at UMass , but S has a friend who was a Bio major fall of freshman year, and was able to switch to chem engineering spring of freshman year without losing any time. If you are in calculus, gen chem and physics, you can probably take Foundations II in the spring, then take Foundations I next fall, IF UConn will let you switch majors.
