Chemical Engineering- How to get Internship

Hello,

This is my first time posting on this forum, so hello to all! I am a junior in Chemical Engineering at Tennessee Technological University (not a very well known university) and I am having a really hard time getting an internship.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, I speak Spanish, Portuguese, and English fluently and I have a 3.71 cumulative GPA and a 4.0 major GPA. I also am a chair in the university's Society of Women engineers and I even studied abroad for a semester in Peru.

I have filled out applications to almost every single major company for chemical engineers, BP, ExxonMobil, Shell, Baker Hughes, Schlumberger, ATK, 3M, Eastman Chemical, Nissan, Conagra, etc. etc. I have only received emails regarding the discontinuation of my candidacy. I also attended two career fairs this fall and interviewed with 5 companies (Colortech, DOMTAR, Honda, Shaw, and ExxonMobil). I received one internship offer, from Colortech, however, I have been unable to hear from them for a month.

I believe part of the reason is that I go to a University that isn't recruited from by any of the major industries. I have no idea what is going on and why I haven't gotten any feedback, I am looking for suggestions on what I can do to get an internship.

Do not lose heart as the recruitment season for internship is still early. Many internship offers will not come till after the new year. It is good that you already received one offer.

Thanks! I’m trying not to lose heart, I’m reaching out to the companies that I have applied to this semester. I’m learning how to find the recruiters on linkedin :)
