I'm planning to a school that has chemical engineering program after this academic year, since mine right now doesn't. For the summer I would like to an internship, but is there any related to chemical engineering that is open to chemistry undergrad? Do you think I'll be able to find one if I search hard?

Pharmaceuticals might have readily available opportunities, especially since every city/town has a drug store. You can could work as a Rx technician and possibly earn some cash. Also since ChemE coops some Chemistry skills, I think internship at a drug store is fair game.

Other odd jobs would include:
Taking samples of garbage at a sanitation company.
Getting involved at a recycling center.
CDC.
Lab maintenance on campus.
Taking urine samples of astronauts at NASA.
A paint store.
Working in a soda factory, and working at a water treatment plant.

So yeah, I would say there’s a decent chance of finding a chemical internship if you are looking hard enough.

Heh, I actually interned at a company that made the pigments which go into paint, and I have to say, it made me glad I went with materials science instead of chemistry or chemical engineering. :)

I think that when you apply to the internships you need to make sure the employer knows that you will be pursuing a ChemE degree. This way the employer knows you are serious about engineering and will be much more likely to offer an internship.

You can always pick up odd jobs as Pillar mentioned but you could focus on getting a lab position.

Thanks for the replies.

old thread but bump!
more opinions would be appreciated
